500 EVENING
FUNCTION AT COROMANDEL
FUNDS FOR RJS.A. CLUB ROOMS
A very pleasant 500 evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs Firth, Coromandel, on Tuesday, October 31, when over 40 1 guests were present. There were ten tables of players and everyone spent a most enjoyable time amongst friendly opponents. During the'evening a collection was taken up in aid of the women’s section of the R.S.A. which is endeavouring to assist the main R.S.A. in Coromandel to raise funds towards the building of club rooms for returned sei’vicemen and women.
The winners of the prizes • were as follows:—'Ladies: Miss A. Riley; run-ner-up, Mrs Gilliver.- Men: Mr Pat O’Dowd; runner-up Mr C. H. McKenzie. The consolation prizes went to Mrs !G. Davies and Mr J. Scott.
A wonderful supper was l provided to which everyone did full justice. At the conclusion of the evening Mr P. Murphy on behalf of the Women’s Section of the Returned Servicemen’s Association, thanked Mi’ and Mrs Firth for their generous and kind gesture in giving this happy evening’s entertainment and also for the very wonderful supper provided. Mr and Mrs Firth had also donated the prizes for the evening’s play. Three hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Firth after which everyone made their way homewards.
