RATE LOWERED

ELECTRICITY CHARGES INDUSTRIAL PURPOSES VALLEY POWER BOARD With the object of assisting the smaller users' of electric power for industrial purposes, the Thames Valley Electric Power Board made reductions in its power charges for these purposes at its meeting in Te Aroha re-

cently. The. rate now is 24d less id for the first 200 units, in lieu of the

former rate of the first 100 units at 3d nett and the next 100 at 2d

nett. This would represent a total annual reduction of £750 to the board, stated the special finance committee’s report.

This change of rate would assist the small user of power considerably, stated the manager, Mr R. Sprague, in explanation, but Would not affect the larger users—dairy companies, sawmills and similar concerns to any great extent. It was designed primarily to help those operators who might use their motors only two or three times a month, or quarter. One of the firms ’concerned was Transport Ltd., of Paeroa, added Mr Sprague. That company had been advised to control its two motors by a change-over switch instead of by two separate switches as at present. The firm had complained previously that it was penalised under the existing rates of charge for industrial motors. The change-over switch and new rates should meet the position, said Mr Sprague.
