WOMEN’S DIVISION
MEETING HELD AT COLVILLE INTERESTING AFTERNOON The president, Mrs- Forsman, in the chair at the meeting of the Colville branch of the WjD.’F.U., held on Saturday, September 2, and aftei reading the creed requested the members to stand in silence as a mark of respect in Mrs Spring’s recent sad loss.
A letter of thanks for a donation towards renewing, the lighting system in the .public hall, was received from the hall committee’s secretary, and an appeal for a donation from the “Leper” man received a generous response.
Another donation towards the Soldiers’ (Parcels Fund was received from Mesdames B. and W. Curtis and J. Mortisen, which should help consid>erably in- purchasing goods for the ten Christmas parcels to ibe packed next month. These parcels will each contain one cake, one tin shortbread, one tin condensed milk, one tin sweets, one tin fruit, one tin cheese, soap, playing cards, writing pad and envelopes.
With victory looming closer it was agreed to have a birthday cake to celebrate the fourteenth anniversary of branch activities. This cake will be cut at a social evening in aid of the 1944 patriotic apfpeal.
Business over, all turned to the trading table which, owing to a special effort on. the members’ part to assist the memorial hall committee in purchasing a tank, was well laden with garments, eatables, fruit, flowers and! vegetables so that the sum l of £6 4s 8d was quickly realised. The monthly: competition was won by Mrs Forsman and Mrs R. S. Goudie and Miss Barbara Goudie were the hostesses at the “tea and) chatter” which ended, a perfect day.
