MAGISTRATE’S COMMENT FOREMAN CHARGED BLAME PLACED ON COUNCIL . Commenting that if it had been the employers, the Coromandel County Council, instead of the servant the county foreman, he would have imposed a fine which would have let the council know his opinion of them, Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Coromandel Court last Wednesday ordered W. J. Beech to pay 10s costs on each of three charges referring to the condition of the lorry he was driving. Beech was charged with operating a Chevrolet truck, the construction of which was liable to cause injury and contrary to traffic regulations, operating a truck without a warrant of fit-
ness dnd with operating a truck which was not equipped with a hand-brake. Beech pleaded guilty on each charge. Beech stated that he was told to drive the vehicle and being a servant of the county council he had to do as he was told. The magistrate then expressed the above comment regarding the case adding that good brakes were necessary on roads on the Peninsula.
