CRICKET AT TAIRUA

WHENUAKITE-HAHEI BEATEN MATCH IN IDEAL WEATHER The first cricket match to be played at Tairua since 1939 was scheduled for Sunday last and proved an interesting attraction to the local and surrounding districts. The teams were Whenuakite and Hahei (combined) against Tairua and Hikuai. The weather was ideal. Hahei and Whenuakite drew first innings and batted well. They were dismissed for 84 runs after a long and strenuous innings. The opposing team played faster and more offensive cricket and scored 167 runs in much quicker time. The best batting , performance of the day was put up by Cory-Wright and B. Stone who each knocked up 44 runs.
