FOR NIGHT ATTACKS
POWERFUL SEARCHLIGHTS WAR AGAINST THE U-BOATS To enable them to make night, attacks on U-boats, R.A.F. Coastal Command aircraft use a powerful searchlight. the Leigh Light, which throws a beam many millions of candle-power in strength. U-boats could at one time come to the surface after dark to recharge their batteries with comparative safety. Now they are liable to attack throughout the 24 hours.
