FOURLOUGH WEDDING

- O’BRIEN—ARMSTRONG BRIDE IN RIPPLED NINON The Balmoral Presbyterian Church, Auckland-, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on March 29, when Miss Lenore Armstrong, second daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Armstrong of Sandringham road, Mt. Albert and late of Mangatarata, was married, to Driver C. J. O’Brien, on furlough from the Middle East, eldest son of Mr and Mrs F. O’Brien, Mangatarata. The Rev. R. Alley officiated.

The bride who was escorted' by her father, wore a charming gown of rippled ninon. The skirt was cut on full lines and lovers’ knots made from the same material adorned it. Her short tulle veil was held in place by a top knot of gladioli and carnations. She carried a bouquet of the same flowers mingled with roses. Miss Wilmer Armstrong, sister of the bride, acting as bridesmaid, looked charming in a gown of ice blue ripple ninon with a top knot matching her bouquet which was composed of pink carnations and pale blue delphiniums. Little Colleen Armstrong, niece of the bride was also an attendant and wore a dress of pale pink ripple ninon, her bouquet being made of pink carnations.

The bridegroom was supported by Driver W. Higgins, also on furlough from the Middle East, as best man.

After the ceremony a reception was held at the New Savoy, Karangahape road, where the bride’s mother received the guests wearing a navy blue ensemble and silver fox stole. She was assisted by Mrs O’Brien who wore a rust ensemble with an autumn toned spray. The three-tiered wedding cake was made by Mrs Hope, aunt of the bride.

The Rev. Alley toasted the health of the bride and groom, Driver Higgins the bridesmaids, Mr Smith of Whitianga bride’s parents, to which Mr Armstrong responded. Bridegroom’s parents, Mr G. Grey, to which Mr O’Brien responded; Mr Bourne, absent friends and Mr D. Armstrong, the clergy.

'Following the reception the guests were invited to the home of Mr and Mrs Armstrong to view the many

beautiful gifts which had been presented to the happy pair.

' The bride’s choice for travelling was a smart suit in black and white check, with black accessories.

Amongst the guests were Mrs Parker, grandmother of the bride, Mr and Mrs Gray, Terence O’Brien, Mrs McClune, Mr and Mrs D. Armstrong, Mr and Mrs P. Bourne, Mr and Mrs Whitaker ( Mangatarata), Mrs and Mr Smith (Whitianga), Mr and Mrs C. Foote (Patetonga), Mr and Mrs Foote (Pukekawa), Mr and* Mrs Dunean Dalgety (Ngatea), Mrs J. Ogilvie, Miss Ogilvie, Mrs J. Jackson, Miss R. Mills, Miss P. Gordon, Miss T. Patterson, Miss N. Learning, Miss W. Gemmille. There were also many of the bridegroom’s comrades who are on furlough present, these 'being Drivers N. Hague, B. Thorburn, D. and R. Broadbent, J. Clark, N. Davies, N. Sarsfield, D. MeKee, E. Charles, C. Butterworth, G. Brady, R. Cameron and S. Balmain.
