WHARF DAMAGED
TROUBLE AT KAIMANAWA MAY BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC “The Kaimanawa wharf has again been extensively damaged. Temporary repairs have been made, but.this work will only keep the structure rigid .until at least two maiA piles on the down-stream side can be replaced. The abuse that the wharf is receiving calls for complaint to the shipping companies'"' using it,” reported the county engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw, to Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council. It was decided to wrjte to the Northern 1 Steamship Company asking them to defray the cost of the repairs. It was pointed out that the revenue from the wharf was very small and was not sufficient to pay for the repairs. If the damage continued the wharf could not be kept in repair and would have to be closed down. Mr G. A. Avery said that on one occasion he had been on the top of 1 the stopbank and had seen the boat damage the wharf.
