COMMITTEE AT COROMANDEL QUESTION OF CONSOLIDATION There was only one absentee at the monttily meeting of the Coromandel Schoo.l Committee over which the chairman, Mr E. W. Gilliver, presided. Advice was received that, due to a fall in the roll, there would he no pro- ' bationary assistant appointed for 1944. Up to the day of the meeting no advice was received regarding the painting of the school. A number of accounts amounting to £7 2s 9d were passed for payment. In a statement submitted by the dental nurse it was disclosed that there had been a total of 409 operations, a number almost identical with last year’s figure. Mr J. Thorn, M.P., attended the meeting to discuss various aspects of consolidation and viewed most favourably the suggestions made. In the meantime he will interview the departments chiefly concerned and in the near future hopes to return and pursue the matter further, when some tangible solution is hoped for. It was agreed to let the matter stand over until Mr Thorn’s return visit.
