WHITIANGA FAREWELL

O.T. B. T. TUCKER HONOURED PRESENTATION FROM DISTRICT Ordinary-Telegraphist B. T. Tucker, son of Constable and Mrs S. Tucker of Whitianga, was farewelled from his home town on Thursday evening, November 11, when the Whitianga Patriotic Committee representing the residents of Mercury Bay, tendered, to Ordinary-Telegraphist Tucker a far-e well dance held in the public hall. The hall was filled with residents from Whitianga and the surrounding district, the music being supplied by Mrs Rose, the M.C., .Mr J. Mellor performing duties very ably. ,Mr Pooley, chairman of the patriotic committee, in his. speech during the presentation, said that Bernard was the sixth of the local iPost Office staff who had joined the Services. Mr Pooley also referred to the fact that Bernard was the youngest boy to be farewelled from the district. Mr Pooley called upon Mr BrOphy, president of the R.'S*.A., who prior to directing his words to Bernard, referred to Bob Ross’s return to New Zealand, and his membership with the Auckland R.S.A . Mr Brophy in his speech referred to the tradition of the Navy, and the honour bestowed in serving in the senior service. At the conclusion, Mr Brophy said “God bless you,” and handed an envelope to Bernard from the patriotic committee, representing the residents of the Bay. Ordinary-Telegraphist Tucker spoke with feeling and expressed his brief thanks.

Dancing continued, the winners of the Monte Carlo waltz being Mrs prestage and C. Brophy. An extra was given by Miss D. Chper. Supper, supplied by the' patriotic committee, was an outstanding success, and a credit to the in these days of rationing.
