BOARD TO VISIT PAEROA

POSITION IN THE WAIHOU

DANGER NEAR MANGAITI

Advice that the Soil Conservation and River Control Board would be visiting the district in October and would be in Paeroa on October 4 was reported to the September meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council. It was decided to meet the board in the Coronation Chambers that evening. The chairman, Mr W. Marshall said the erosion which was occurring in Peel’s and the Maratoto creeks should be brought to the notice of the board.

Mr J. J. Shallue stated that the erosion in the Waihou river at Mangaiti was becoming serious. There was only about a chain to go before the river would reach an old gully and if this was. entered it would change the whole course of the river. 1 The river had eaten back some four chains at this point during recent years.

It was decided to refer tjlis question to the board also.
