VICTORY DANCE
FUNCTION AT WHITIANGA
SOLDIERS’ PARCEL FUND AIDED
A “Victory” dance organised by the young* people of Whitianga was held in the Public Hall on Thursday evening in aid of Soldiers’ Parcel Funds. An amount of £9 4s fid was taken for this worthy cause, and the atmosphere generally was synonomously “victorious.”
The M.C. was Mi* Happy who did the honours in his ! usually happy style and Mrs Rose and her piano accordion supplied the dance music.
Prior to the serving of a temptingsupper, supplied by the ladies of the Bay in conjunction with the Patriotic Committee, Mr Brophy, on behalf of the young people said to the 120 dancers present, that in view of the many political meetings being held in the Bay, it had been decided to call the dance of the evening “Non-Poli-tical.” However, this had been changed to “Victory Dance” in view of the Italian armistice. Mr Brophy then called upon all those present to ioin in and make it a real “Victory” Dance.
A hearty round of acclamation was given at the conclusion of Mr Brophy’s speech and supper was served by the young people. Mr I. A. Norton gave an extra.
Monte Carlo waltz winners were Miss D. Troughear and Mr Brien.
