ELECTION ADDRESSES
MEETING AT MATATOKI REV. R. DAY’S CAMPAIGN / Despite bad weather a small but appreciative audience heard the Rev. R. Day, Independent candidate for the Thames electorate on Friday September 10, at Matatoki. A point of interest stressed was the right of withdrawal of the people’s support should the candidate fail in his promises- to his electors. The usual vote of thanks was extended to the speaker and the chairman. DEMOCRATIC LABOUR SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS HELD The election campaign throughout the Thames electorate of Mr Balfour Dawson, the Democratic Soldiers’ Labour Party candidate, is proceeding very satisfactorily. Good meetings have been held at Whenuakite, at which Mr 0. Hamilton presided, Coroglen (chairman, Mr M. Minifie), Whitianga (chairman, Mr Watkins), Kuaotunu (chairman, Mr A. Simpson), Coromandel (chairman, Mr C. Rae), Hikutaia and Puriri.
At all the meetings Mr Dawson received patient hearings, votes of thanks and confidence being accorded him.
ON THE PENINSULA
ADDRESSES BY MR J. THORN
During- the past week Mr James Thorn, Labour candidate for Thames, addressed meetings of electors at the following” places:—OPuru, Tapu, Colville, Amodeo 'Bay, Kennedy’s Bay, Kuaotunu, Mercury Bay, Whenuakite, and Coroglen. At all these meetings the attendances were as' good as on any occasion Mr Thorn has delivered speeches' at these places' ‘before, in fact, generally speaking, the attendances were larger.
Mr Thorn was received in friendly fashion everywhere, and at all the meetings the opinion was expressed by movers of motions of thanks that he had proved himself the best M.P. the electorate ever had. ATTENTIVE HEARING MR CLARK AT MANGAITI A meeting of between 30 and 40 residents was addressed by Mr W. A. Clark at Mangaiti on Wednesday evening, and the candidate was given an attentive hearing. A number of questions was asked at the conclusion of •the address and were answered to the satisfaction of the audience. Mr J. J. Shallue was chairman and\before the meeting closed a vote cf thanks was moved by Mr A. Mace and seconded by Mr Fieldhouse, and carried by acclamation.
