Mrs Polson Not Speaking

Heard in overseas broadcasts from Canada in the last week were Sgt.Pilot Dick Murdock of Hikutaia, and Pilot-Officer Laurie Johnston, who before in the Air Force was for two years living in Hikutaia.

Land Tax The Commissioner of Taxes draws the attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in- to-day’s issue, that the due date of payment of Bandtax for the current year is on Thursday, September 30, 1943, and that the demands will be posted on or about September 23.

Borough Council Meets The September meeting'of the Paeroa. Borough Council was held in the Borough Chambers, Paeroa, on Thursday, the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, presiding. Others present were Messrs W. Smith, D. G. McMillan, E. >S. Moore, J. Walmsley, F. Sparks, B. Gwilliam Snr., C. C. Webb, H. M. Shand and the acting-town clerk, Mr A. A. Jenkinson.

Plains County Council The monthly meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council was held at Ngatea on Wednesday, the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, presiding. Others present were Messrs J. Mayn. W. H. Cheale, C. W. Schultz, F. Pinchess, A. H. Sutton, the county clerk, Mr E. A; Mahoney and the county engineer Mr J. C. Clarke. Leave of absence was granted Messrs D. G. McMillan, W. E. Hale and J. W. Neate. Cancel Out Debts

“It is unthinkable that, the people should go on paying forever on an asset which has ceased to exist,” said Mr R. G. Young, Real Democracy candidate for Hauraki to a large and representative audience which carried a vote of 'thanks and confidence at Kerepeehi. Referring to Thames Harbour, under his proposals, Mr Young said that securities held by Government Departments would be cancelled, -and securities held by private persons and institutions would be bought up by the Reserve Bank and cancelled out of existence.
