REPORTED MISSING
PILOT-OFFICER S. T. SCHMIDT
FORMER TURUA AIRMAN
Mrs F. E. Schmidt, of Piako road', Turua, has received a telegram from the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, stating that her son, PilotOfficer Stanley Thomas Schmidt, has been reported missing on air operations on the night of September 5-6, 1943.
Pilot-Officer Schmidt was 1 born at Turua 23 years ago, and is the youngest son of Mi’s and the late Mr J. Schmidt. He was educated at the Turua and Ngatea District High Schools.
Pilot-Officer Schmidt started work in the Turua Post Office and was later transferred to the Taneatua branch. He joined the Air Force, and after training' in New Zealand, went to Canada, where he completed his training. He left for England in May last. He was flying a Halifax bomber on the night? he was reported missing.
