CONTEST FOR THAMES SEAT NOMINATIONS CLOSED FIVE CONTESTING HAURAKI When nominations, closed at noon, on Thursday there were four candidates in the held for the Thames seat at the general election to be held on September 25. In ad&ftidh. to the sitting members, Mr J. Thorn (Labour) who has represented Thames since 1935 when he defeated Mr A. M. Samuel, the nominations of Mr W. A. Clark i(National), Mr Balfour Dawson (Democratic Labour), and Mr Reg. Day (Independent), were ini the hands of the returning officer, Mr C. A. Montgomerie.

In the Hauraki electorate five nominations have been received, being in addition to the sitting member, Mr A. S. Sutherland, Lt.-Col. E. C. N. Robinson (Labour), Mr R. G. Young (Real Democracy), Mr H. T. Head (Independent People’s Movement) and Mr D. C. Beloe (Democratic Labour). The sitting member, Mi- A. S. Sutherland (National), won the seat in a by-election held in February, 1942, following the death on active service of Lt.-Col. Allen. Party affiliations have been indicated thus:— Labour Party, L; National, N; Democratic Labour, D.L.; Independent, I; Independent Labour, 1.L.; Real Democracy, R.D.; Independent Nationalist, 1.N.; People’s Movement (LP.M.).
