CONTRACT LET
NEW POLICE RESIDENCE BUILDING FOR TE AROHA The contract for the new police residence in Te Aroha has been let to Mr, W. G. Barclay, and a start is to be made on the erection of this building within five or six weeks, the delay being necessary to permit of the timber, which is already on hand, to dry out. The new residence, which will comprise five rooms and a sunporch, is to
be erected with a northern aspect on the site between the present police residence and the Kenrick street boundary.
It is just sixty years ago in 1883 since the present police court and residence was erected.
Appeal for Truck Drivers When appealing for five truck drivers at the No. 2 Armed Forces 'Appeal Board, Mr J. Deyell told the chairman that though three of these men were 27 years of age and grade 1, the particular type of work they did was heavy and could be undertaken by only fit men. Asked how many children one of the men had Mr Deyell said he had two when the appeal was lodged but now he had four. “You see, his wife had twins recently y so that makes four,” he explained. “Well, that's not playing the game,” said the chairman, laughing, “but we’ll let you have this man. ”
