WAITAKARURU INSTITUTE MRS GODKIN FAREWELLED PRESENTATION FROM MEMBERS At the June meeting of the Waitakaruru Women’s Institute, Mrs 'Pacey presided over a fair attendance of members. Mrs H. Wallis acted as secretary in the absence of Mrs Mitchell. Letters of appreciation from Ptes. P. Mitchell, K. Laing and H. Levers who are serving overseas were read. The recipients gratefully acknowledged the parcels which had arrived in good condition. The treasurer reported that a sum of 10s had been paid to the next-of-kin of each local prisoner of war as. a donation towards a parcel. Mrs Laing, delegate to the May A.D.F.W.I. Conference gave a comprehensive and interesting report on the proceeds of the conference. In her report mention was made of the praise given by the judges of the handcraft competition to two Waitakaruru entries —a pixie cap made by Mrs.’ Hinton Jand a novelty brooch by Mrs Jellie, full marks being secured for both entries. It was reported that Ngatea had been successful in winning the Phillips’ Memorial Cup for drama and the secretary was instructed to send a : letter of congratulation to the sister institute. As Mrs J. Godkin of Waitakaruru is to reside at Kerepeehi a presentation of a handbag was made to her by Mrs A. McPherson on behalf of members. Mrs McPherson eulogised the work done by Mrs Godkin especially the excellent work she had done as librarian of the Institute library for a number of years. Mrs F. Stretton was appointed librarian to fill the vacancy. I Mangatarata members entertained during the afternoon with several competitions. A knitting competition for speed was won by Mrs W. Wallace and an amusing competition, the honeymoon couple by Mesdames B. Caie and Jellie. The milk jug cover was won by Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Godkin won the shilling article and Mrs Caie ; a dressed fowl donated by Mrs Har- > ris. !
