PAEROA MEET TE AROHA FINAL SCORE THREE ALL VISITORS SCORE RIGHT ON TIME Failure to make the most of their opportunities resulted in the Paeioa Rugby Union’s junior representatives playing a drawn game with Te Aroha on the Paeroa Domain on Saturday, the final score being three all. On the day Paeroa backs handled badly while in the second spell the home team tired badly and lost control of the game. The teams were: — Paeroa (green).—C. Speechlay, G. Fulton, J. Jamieson, W. Monkley, D. Longdon, S. Winter, G. Cornes, B. Waugh, D. Lynch, L. Sandford, E. Wilson, Scott, G. Neil, F' Clark, N. Nicholls. Paeroa kicked off and an exchange of long kicks followed. A good line kick by Ryall put Paeroa on attack but off-side play gave Te Aroha a chance to return play to mid-field. , Shilton Breaks Through Shilton broke through during a scramble but when nearly clear was stopped by Carmine, play going on to the Te Aroha line where a penalty kick gave the visitors respite. Keen following-up by Speechley put Paeroa in a handy position but Smith played off-side and spoilt the opportunity. Again Paeroa kicked high and followed up fast but a mark, by Murray under the Te Aroha posts stopped the forward rush. ■Off-side play by Te Aroha forwards in front of the goalposts half-way between the twentyfive-yard line and • mid-field gave Ryall a shot at goal but the kick went wide. Paeroa bustled play to the Te Aroha twentyfive and a scrum was called near the Te Aroha goal line. Paeroa launched several attacks with their backs and on one occasion looked dangerous but good tackling by Ainsley grassed Fulton when he looked dangerous. Mishandling by Paeroa in their own twentyfive let Te Aroha through but a knock-on saved the home team. From the ensuing scrum Lynch secured and attempted a drop-kick but the ball went wide and Paeroa forced. Easy Kick Missed Te Aroha continued to press until Ryall secured and kicked well downfield. Fast following-up by Paeroa caught Te Aroha out of position, the ball going out by the corner flag. During a scramble in front ”of the Te Aroha'goal posts the visitors were penalised but Ryall missed an easy kick. Te Aroha caught Jamieson in possession but Speechley came to the rescue, kicked high and followed up fast to grass the Te Aroha man with the ball. Speechley was given, the ball near midfield and ran right through bpt mishandling near the goal line spoilt the movement and a free kick awarded on the Te Aroha goal line gave the visitors relief. Good tackling by Baker grassed Carmine near the Te Aroha goal posts the ball falling back behind Te Aroha giving shilton a clear run to the posts but a slight knock-on in picking up ■stopped the game. Another Kick Missed Carmine was caught in possession and hung on, Paeroa being awarded a free kick on the twentyfive-yard line but Speechley’s kick went wide. Hastie bluffed Te Aroha when he took the ball near midfield, running clean through the visiting pack before he lost the ball, the movement carrying on right to the Te Aroha goal line where a sacks-on-the-mill scrum occurred. Half-time was called without score. After the interval Te Aroha took a turn at attack. Ryall put Paeroa on attack and penetrated well into the Te Aroha territory but poor handling spoilt the movement. Bustling tactics carried Paeroa right to the Te Aroha line hut the red and blacks managed to force. Crosby broke through on the blind side and sent Jamieson away who threw the ball infield wildly when challenged by Carmine, Paeroa supporters losing control of the game aid Te Aroha forced. rush it looked as though the visitors were clear away but bad handling allowed Paeroa to gather round and stop the attack. Te Aroha forwards in a dribbling rush kicked over Speechley’s head but fast support from Baker who fell on the ball right on the Paeroa goal line stopped the movement and the green forwards rallied round and held the attack. Te Aroha continued to call the tune and kept the home team penned in their own twenty-five. From a scramble in front of the Paeroa posts the defenders were caught offside but Monkley missed an easy kick. Paeroa backs tried to get away but mishandling spoilt the movement, Shilton eventually finding the line. Paeroa backs got away with men to spare but Shilton failed to hold his pass when clear. Niven Dives Over From a scramble following a lineout on the line Niven dived on the ball well out. Ryall missed the kick. Paeroa 3, Te Aroha 0. Paeroa put fresh energy into their game at this stage and play ensued in Te' Areha territory. Speechley failed to collect the ball in a Te Aroha attack and the visitors rushed well through before Shilton came back fast to fall on the ball near the Paeroa goal line. From play midfield Te Aroha worked to the Paeroa line but the greens, forced. Carelessness by Speechley in picking up a long Te Aroha kick on his own goal line allowed Te Aroha to catch him in possession when he had to go to the leather a second time and in the struggle Te Aroha scored beside the posts.
