GARDENS IN NEED OF DIGGING APPEAL MADE BY MAYOR An appeal for more helpers to dig the gardens of wives and mothers of servicemen was made by the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, At Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce. Mr Edwards said that some were already giving assistance but there was a lot more that could be done particularly in the next few months when it was important that gardens for next season should be turned over. Mr Edwards emphasised the value of a garden, especially where there was a family, explaining thaf many women could care for a garden and raise a crop but had to have the ground dug for them. Anybody able to help in this work should contact any member of the Paeroa District Patriotic Committee. The chamber approved of the proposal and appealed to the public for co-operation in this work.
