SERPENTINE SUPER

It is unfortunate that a prolonged spell of dry. weather should have made it difficult for farmers to estimate reliably the results of the fertiliser experiment which they have had to make this season. Very emphatic claims were made by the advocates —official and otherwise —of what is termed serpentinesuper, and as producers had practically no choice in the matter they used., the product and waited to ascertain the results. For anything like a reasonable comparison normal climatic conditions were essential and that has not been the case.

Men farming the heavier classes of land may be able to express an opinion and men in the districts that have enjoyed a good rainfall .should be able to produce reliable evidence. The matter is one on which. producers’ reports would be of interest, and no doubt the official view will be given in the next annual report of the Department of Agriculture. But possibly for the most part it will be agreed that the conditions ruling have prevented anything like a reliable comparison to be made and that is unfortunate for this was the first time that many producers had used the mixture on their pastures. \
