HAVE YOU EVER TRIED THIS? «— — ' An easy way to cover jam is to boil a little sago with a dessertspoonful of vinegar, rub it with thefingers. over both sides of discs of brown paper and press one down over each jamjar. This forms an airtight covering, effective and inexpensive. If a cork which is liable to stick is first rubbed over with glycerine it will be found easy to remove it from the bottle without fear of breakage. After washing stockings rub the toes and heels with candle or paraffin wax. Stockings treated thus will wear a long time without going into holes. Instead of wrapping linen, etc., in blue paper to preserve its colour, blue heavily some old towels or cloths and use these to wrap round the linen. Blankets stored in heavilyblued old pillow-cases will keep clean and a good colour. When cutting tomato sandwiches put an onion beside the breadboard and slip the knife into it several times while slicing each tomato.
