SCHOOL SWIMMING
CHILDREN TESTED DAY AT HOT WATER BEACH An event of interest to the Whenuakite district was the school children’s swimming test held on Saturday, March 20, at Hot Water Beach. Brilliant sunshine and an ideal semitepid stream provided'conditions that were conducive to the very fine results achieved.
Masters Gordon Page and Roy Liddell are to be congratulated on completing their half-mile and truly earned the prolonged applause that greeted their splendid effort. Tn the '220 yards, Wallace Hamilton, Gavan Liddell, Joan Harsant, Cynthia Hamilton and Barbara Hamilton completed the test with comparative ease and should with diligent effort be equal to the half-mile next year.
In the primary class Douglas Liddell and Dawn Murray were deservingly applauded for completing their 50' yards test. In style and consistency of effort Barbara Hamilton carried the honours of the day, while Gard Liddell completed his 220 yards in fastest time, and won for himself praise for his splendid overarm stroke. There is no doubt that the swimming achievement of the Whenuakite School has been greatly assisted by the practical- and encouraging interest of their teacher, Miss Bruce, and the district can be justly proud of the honours attending the meritorious efforts of the school children.
