DANCE AT PURIRI

“POPULAR GIRL” CONTEST

VERY ENJOYABLE EVENING

A dance, to raise funds for the county candidate in the Thames in-ter-zone “Popular Girl” contest, was held in the Puriri Hall on Saturday night.

Music was supplied by the New Collegians Orchestra, and the M.C., Mr L. C. Hilton, carried out his duties in his usual able manner. Miss Kura Lavis, the Thames County candidate, was present, together with a number of supporters from Puru.

During the evening Mr Hilton thanked the people of the Puriri district for the wonderful support given the contest, stating that £4'2o' had been raised in the Puriri Riding. Later, Mr ID. Courtney, chairman of the county candidate’s committee, welcomed Miss Davis and party and congratulated the Puru Riding on winning the county competition. He hoped Miss Davis would be successful in the “Popular Girl” contest. Mr J. Jones responded on behalf of the Hastings committee, while Miss IDavis responded on her own behalf. Miss V. Courtney presented Miss IDavis with a bouquet of flowers.
