“NEW YORK TOWN”

ALL-STAR COMEDY DRAMA PROGRAMME AT REGENT F. MacMURRAY, MARY MARTIN “New York Town,” Paramount’s all-star comedy drama which will show at the Regent Theatre to-night and Thursday is a gay comedy of life in the Big Town —especia’ly' among those folks a ho make up tho majority of the city’s heartbeats, Fred Mac Murray r ppears as a sidewalk photographer whose only interest in life is to click with his customers and find new angles to outsmart the world. Mary Martin is the small town girl on whom Fred focuses all his attention in a brotherly sort of way, until Robert Preston, wealthy young pl? yboy, gives him some competition. Intent on proving to Mary that one doeesn’t have to be loaded down with gold bricks to enjoy the better things life offers in New York, Fred introduces her to' his ir tenious circuit of entertainment. . His technique in showing her a good time consists of crashing fancy bon voyage parties aboard luxury ste? mers, lunching at department store f ood demonstration counters and—for good measurb — making the rounds of radio station quiz programmes vhere, with a little cheating, they win a 64 dollar prize. Under the direction of Charles Vidor,' the film sp flights the great cross-section of the metropolis—how they live, laugh and love. There are heart-throbs and heart-aches aplenty, but as elsewhere, love can always Jbe depended .upon to conquer all. Besides the romantic trio, the. allstar cast include-' Akim Tamiroff, Lynne Overman aid a long parade of familiar faces who make “New York Town” seem as alive and real as any movie vacation can be.
