VISIT TO TE AROHA

SAILORS FROM AMERICA ARRIVING SATURDAY WEEK As a result of an invitation made some time ago to members of the American Forces to visit Te Aroha for the week-end, His Worship the Mayor of Te Aroha, Mr L. C. Mackie, has received the following communication from Executive Officer W. E. McClendon, of the United States Navy:— “Thank you, and through you, the people of Te Aroha, for the kind invitation to 20 of our men to visit you for the week-end.

“Existing orders have not yet permitted granting extended leave, or even over-night leave, to our people in this area, hence the delay in answering. Arrangements have now been made to permit acceptance of your invitation in this instance.

“It is proposed to send 20 1 men of petty officer- or lower rating, plus one Chief Petty Officer (in charge of party) to you on October 3. They will follow the schedule suggested by you, arriving in Th Aroha at 1.45 p.m. Saturday, October 3 and departing at 1.50 p.m. on Monday, October 5.

I feel certain that the fortunate ones selected for this visit will thoroughly enjoy this stay and I trust that your people will have equal pleasure in their company.”
