ROLL OF HONOUR

WOUNDED AND MISSING CPL. W. H. ALLEY OF HIKUTAIA Corporal W. H. Alley, who is reported as wounded and missing, eldest son of Mrs P. Alley and the late Mr W. H. Alley .of Hikutaia, left New Zealand with the First New Zealand Echelon.

Corporal Alley was very well known and popular in Hikutaia and surrounding districts. Before going on active service he had lived all his life in Hikutaia and was educated at Hikutaia iSchool and Nelson College. He took a very prominent paid in all the affairs, of the district, being secretary at various times of the Alley Memorial Park, the Hikutaia Tennis Club and the Hikutaia Hall Committee.

In sport also he was outstanding, representing Hikutaia and Paeroa at Rugby and in the game of tennis was a representative' player for the Thames Valley Lawn Tennis Association.

Several very interesting letters of Corporal Alley’s relating his experiences in the Greek campaign were published by the Hauraki Plains Gazette some ..
