Compeer, who will endeavour to emulate the three successive Wins of Treasurer at this time last year, has been only twice out of a place in his ten starts this season, and has won at his last two starts. He is a coming four-year-old gelding by Paper Money from Last Note, and is owned'by Mr D. J. McDonald and trained at Wingatui. He has a colonial pedigree from his dam, who is by the Kilbroney horse Songbird from Hard Cash, by Penates from San Severo, by Saint Ilario. It is a branch of Mermaid’s No. 14 family. Penates, who appeas in the pedigree, won the Winter Cup in 1908, followed by the Stewards’ Handicap in November, and two years later he won the Great Easter Handicap.
