WARD FOR BABIES

HOSPITAL AT COROMANDEL IMPROVEMENTS CARRIED OUT Lieutenant Brook, despite army service, finds time to continue his keen interest in. the Coromandel Hospital. In his capacity as board member, he visited the institution during last week and inspected the progress of the new alterations. The nurses’ home is almost completed and. it will no longer ibe necessary for some of the nurses to sleep outside the institution.

The out-patient and X-ray rooms have been enlarged and made more convenient, there will no be an extra ward for babies, and such necessities as wash basins in the wards are being added. Lieutenant Brook considers that further amenities could well be added, in particular improved lavatory accommodation, and better kitchen facilities; and has been in consultation with the chairman and other board members in this connection. The difficulty arises, however, mainly in the ever-increasing restrictions on building and the growing impossibility of obtaining suitable materials. On the whole, it is considered that the Coromandel Hospital was fortunate to obtain the improvements at present being completed, at a time when building activities excepting urgent war jobs are being cut to a minimum.
