SHOULD BE PAID

BONUS TO WOOLGROWERS MR SUTHERLAND’S OPINION OTHER SECTIONS ASSISTED During the debate on the Wool Industry Account in the House of Representatives recently, Mr A. S. Sutherland, M.P. for Hauraki said that he hoped'that the Minister Would decide to pay out in full to the grower the recent 15 peW cent, increase. He stated that he saw no justification for the Government holding back any portion of it; it was not a gift, but a payment to meet the additional costs incurred ’by the industry in the Dominion. The extra money was not given by the British Government to create a fund by the Minister. The woolgrowers were one section of the community that could handle their own affairs.

The Minister called in the Secretary of the Treasury and talked about inflation. There was no talk about inflation when other sections of the ’community were given, a cost of liv!ng bonus. The Minister should pay out the full 15 per cent. The I's per cent, should also be paid for wool used on the local market.
