BOUGHT A HERD OF COWS VOLUNTEER FOR OVERSEAS “You had absolutely no right to buy a herd of cows and enter into a sharemilking contract when you know you were liable for military service and had not been . granted sine die adjournment of your case,” said a member of an Armed Forces Appeal Board at Hamilton in addressing a sharemilker, who was a volunteer for overseas service and was being examined on a personal appeal. The reservist had recently been passed fit for military duties, nearly two years after his voluntary enlistment, after treatment at the instance of the Army authorities. He sought exemption from military service, explaining that he had bought a herd and entered into a two-year contract as a sharemilker. Last season he was in a reserved occupation, supplying milk to a cheese factory. He bought .the herd a few days after he had been

placed in grade 1 by the Army medical board. With reluctance a sine die exemption was granted.
