FORTY YEARS AGO
MARATOTO MINE MANAGER BAZAAR AT KARANGAHAKE VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of June 29, 1902.) Mr 'Henry Goldsworthy has been appointed mine manager of the Maratoto mine. Mr 'Goldsworthy was manager of the Great Mercury and recently underground manager of the Dubbo section of the Talisman. We, clip the following pars from the Bulletin issued for the first New Zealand. Mounted Association, the seventh' number of which was issued last week: “Dick Hubbard wrote saying that Montgomery spent his honeymoon in Paeroa. Dick himself is a trifle sad because his friends . are in Africa, and he has to .stick to farming.” “Strange is ‘on the land’ with his ‘brother at Te Aroha. The Catholic Bazaar at Karangahake last night was a great success. Bishop Lenihan, attended by Dean Hackett, Monsignor O’Reilly and Father Kehoe, •were present during the evening. The stalls, five in number, were laden with all kinds of fancy works, and the sideshows were a special attraction. The ping pong tables did a roaring trade as also did the shooting gallery. The ladies’ committee deserves highest praise for their endeavours to make the people at home.
