RUGBY UNION MEETS THREE PLAYERS FINED SUBURBS TO PLAY EAST (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of June 19, 1902.)

Should Suburbs defeat East tomorrow afternoon, the three teams will be level for. the Cup. At present East have four points to their credit — a win and two draws; West, four points', four draws; and Suburbs, two points, two draws. So far East have the .only win registered this season, and' that was against Suburbs, the other four matches resulting in drawn games.

A meeting of the iPheroa Rugby Union Management Committee was held on Wednesday evening, Mr Garcia presiding. One West player and three Suburbs players were fined one shilling each for playing in jerseys of the wrong colour last Saturday. The secretary was instructed to write to the Karangahake Union about arranging two rep. matches and suggesting July 26 as the date for the first match, to be played at Paeroa. Mr A. Fielder was appointed referee for the East v. Suburbs match on Saturday! next. It was decided 1 to procure distinctive badges for the members of the management committee. Mr P. Flynn resigned his position as a member of the management committee and the resignation was accepted with regret and Mr A. MacGregor was appointed to fill the vacancy. It was decided that subscribers of five shillings to the funds of the 1 Union be admitted free to Cup matches only. ‘Grace was given permission to play for Suburbs; J. Coote for East; and Priestly, Belton, Walker and E. Shaw for West. .
