WHITIANGA GIRL IN SYDNEY

A quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Phillip’s Church, Sydney, on nesday, May 6, when Miss Claris (Clare) Russell Jacknjan, second daughter of the late Mr and; Mrs J. J. Jackjnan, of Whitianga, was married to Flight-Lieutenant Harold Joseph, R.A.A.F., only son of Mr and Mrs A. Joseph of “Corra Lynn,” Tamworth. The Ven. Archdeacon Beg'bie officiated. The 'bride wore a navy suit in soft wool, corsage of mauve orchids, and smart navy felt hat featuring the new upstanding brim outlined in white. Miss Joan Jackman attended her sister as bridesmaid, in' a modish twotone gown in orchid blue and brown, with felt hat, and a shoulder spray of orchids. Mr George Ibbott gave the bride away, and Squadron-Leader John Dillworth, R.AjF. was best man. The wedding luncheon was served at the Carlton Hotel, where the bridegroom’s parents received the guests. Mrs Joseph chose a light wool frock and hat in pervenche blue, and wore a corsage spray of gladioli blooms and orchids. The small gathering of immediate relatives and friends included the sisters of the

bridegroom, Mrs E. D. Shaw (Taniworth), Miss Beryl Joseph (head of the physiotheraphy section at the 113th. Australian General Hospital, Concord) 1 , and Miss Una Joseph (Tamworth), Mr and Mrs George Ibbott, Squadron-Leader and Mrs Dillworth, and Miss Alice White who was recently married in Sydney to. FlightLieut. Frank Spooner. Cables and ■telegraphed congratulations were received from New Zealand, America, Melbourne and the Commanding Officer and personnel of the' various Flights of the Central Flying Station, to which the bridegroom is attached.

Prior to her marriage, the bride was a member of the New Zealand Women’s War Auxiliary in Sydney, and rendered valuable assistance at the Hyde Park canteen and in other war service.
