ANZAC SERVICE
I CEREMONY AT WHITIANGA MANY PEOPLE. ATTEND LARGE PARADE THIS YEAR The Anzac service held at Whitianga on Sunday was. exceptionally well attended. Besides citizens of the whole Mercury Bay area, military effect was given (by the parading of the Independent Mounted Rifles, the returned soldiers and iboth the Whe-nuakite-Coroglen and Whitianga Home Guard with the Girl Guides and the school children. Mr Simpson, Presbyterian minister of Goromandel took the service and spoke of the Anzac spirit 'both of the men who fought in the last war and the men who are fighting now. Many wreaths were laid at the foot of the monument and the “Last Post” was sounded by Mr Alfred Lee. Lieutenant H. Gordon paraded the various platoons of men and handed over to Lieutenant Brook (1.M.R.), who marched them round to the park where the service was held. Refreshments were served in the E.P.S. rooms by the ladies to the visitors from the surrounding districts.
