FORTY YEARS AGO

RUGBY AFFAIRS IN PAEROA DELEGATES TO THE UNION COLOURS FOR THE EAST CLUB (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of April 27, 1902.) The football match between Paeroa and Komata, which was to have been played in Paeroa last Saturday, had to be postponed owing to the Komata players being unable to get away from work. However, a practice was held by the players present, and a good game resulted. At a meeting of Paeroa footballers on Saturday evening, Messrs. Garcia and Moore were appointed delegates of the Paeroa Rugby Union on the management committee of the Ohinemuri Rugby Union. It was decided to instruct the delegates to vote for affiliation with Auckland.

At a meeting of the managecommittee of the Paeroa Rugby Union on Saturday night, it was decided by lot that the East Club have the choice of the colours of the old Paeyoa 'Club, namely, amber and black. The Komata (suburbs)' colour is blue. The first Cup match will be played between the East and West teams in Paeroa on May 10.

L. Shaw, last year’s Ohinemuri representative full-back, has returned do Paeroa from Auckland and will probably remain here during the season.
