ALL SERVICES CLUB

(To the Editor.)

Si r> — a suggestion has been put forward to form an All Services Club ■which will incorporate Soldiers, Home Guardsmen, W.W.S.A. and all male or female war workers. This suggestion has been wholeheartedly received by the Area Commander, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Paeroa, and a few more leading citizens of Paeroa. I would appreciate it if I can get your support, by giving the subject a write-up occasionally in your paper. “The object of the club is to have somewhere where members of the services can gather to have social evenings in the way-of entertainments’ games, sports and so forth. Also it would go a . long way towards meeting the Prime Minister’s, wishes when he remarked that the' best way 'to keep a man onleave front ma.king visits to public houses, would be to form something for "their entertainment. ■ •

“The club will be free to members from ex overseas and men on, leave. I am trying to solicit the help of the Paeroa Patriotic Committee in the way of appointing hostesses, to be, in attendance daily at the 'club. This may be greatly facilitated by the. able help of the Mayoress. “The fee suggested is 2s .6d -joining fee for male members and 2s 6d per month. Ladies, 2s joining fee and Is 6d, per month. It is suggested'that the old Bluebird Dining Rooms in Normanby road be obtained for the Use of the club.

“So far I have 45 names of people who have written promises to support the club and by advertising it in your journal a .good many, more names would probably be sent in as probable members, as if ‘appears that we have got to have at least 70’members before a club can be run on a sound financial basis. If this number of promised members can be arranged we Will have a meeting in order to form a committee of officials to run thd-club.

“In giving this subject a write-up, it would be appreciated if an appeal could also be made to the public to send in promises of donations iti the way of furniture, chairs,’settees, small tables, chatels, books: and monetary donations would also be accepted. Also, it could be pointed out that if male members are married it would be to the social gatherings.

“Would you also point out that applications for membership in whiting and donations and so forth could be sent in to you and I could arrange to collect same.

“Trusting you will give us your support to the full through the med.ium of your paper.—l am, etc., H. RICE, W.0.,. Army Office, Paeroa.
