NO LACK OF ESSENTIALS SOME MAY DISAPPEAR VEGETABLE GROWING URGED That, although there was no need for the community to go short of adequate nourishing food, there was a likelihood that many articles now procurable in shops would shortly disappear from the market was stated by the regional controller of supplies, Mr H. Honeyfield, when he paid a short and hurried visit to Waihi last week. The regional controller gave an indication that there were many things in shops at present which would disappear shortly, and would not be replaced. He recommended everyone who had some land available to grow vegetables, and added that with plenty of these, plus meat, milk, butter and cheese obtainable close at hand, the community would not starve even if lines of communication were interrupted for a period. The industrious man or woman with a good kitchen garden might have cause to he thankful in time of emergency.
