RUGBY TEAMS AT PLAY PAEROA v. NATIVE ROSE GAME IN DELANY’S PADDOCK (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of April 13, 1902.) Provided the weather is favourable, the match between Paeroa and Native Rose, to be played in Delany’s Paddock tomorrow afternoon, should be well attended. Both teams are fairly strong, and should be well matched, so that enthusiasts can look forward to a good gdme. The Paeroa Brass Band will be in attendance and the music provided will no doubt be appreciated by the public. The Native Rose team is- as follows:—Fullback, Newdick; three-quarters, McMahon, Morgan and McLean; five-eighths, Thompson; half, Price; forwards, Hansen and Snowing (wings), Muddlestone, Mullins, Renshaw, Molloy, Grace, Dunlop and Carpenter. A game was played at Paeroa on Saturday between two Maori teams —married and single. The single men proved altogether too good for their opponents and won by 11 points (three tries, one converted) to three points (one try). The crowd of spectators thoroughly enjoyed the game, which was characterised, by fast, open play. One dusky warrior received a nasty bump on the head and had to retire. The two teams set down to a dinner in_ the evening in the Commercial Hotel and wound up with a dance in the Wharf Street Hall.
