TO AVOID STRIKES

ALL SHOULD BE MOBILISED TELEGRAM TO MR FRASER COROMANDEL RESOLUTION “Owing to the critical menace with which this Dominion is faced this council suggestsi that the Government take immediate steps to mobilise and control the whole of the industries and labour throughout the country with the view to utilising them to secure a total war effort and so avoid a repetition of Westfield and other strikes,” was a resolution

passed at the monthly meeting of the Coromandel County Council and telegraphed to Mr J. Thorn, M.P.

Mr Thorn replied, by telegram as follows: —

“Many thanks for wire with council’s excellent resolution which I personally approve. Will bring this to Prime Minister’s attention to-day.” The Prime Minister, Right Hon. P. Fraser, also replied by telegram as under: —

“Mr J. Thorn, M.'P., has • placed your telegram in front of| me for consideration which it will most, certainly receive. The suggestions you make are important and will be examined with a view to determining how far they are practicable. Please accept my thanks for the intelligent and patriotic interest in matters of such great national importance shown by your council.”
