‘BLACKOUT’ POLONAISE

FEATURE AT TURUA DANCE FUNCTION FOR NAVS-- QUEEN Turua supporters of the Navy Queen in the present Thames Patriotic Carnival, organised a dance, in aid of Navy funds, which was held on Wednesday night in the Turua Public Hall. Mr C. Robertson was NI.C.

. Most inclement weather did not damp the spirits of those present, and a nicely varied programme of oldtime and swing numbers,, to music supplied by Herb. Walker and: his “New Collegians” from Thames, provided all patrons with a good evening’s entertainment.

Mr Les. Hayes presented the queen, Miss Valerie Steedman and thanked everybody for coming along, also Mr C. Robertson for his assistance in arranging the dance.

A box of chocolates was won by Mr H. Ryan. The Monte Carlo waltz prize went to Miss V. Steedman and her partner, Mr A. Treadaway.

A new feature of the programme was the “black-out” polonaise, which caused a lot of amusement to participants, and yet more to on lookers. The plenteous supper was served, by a ladies’ committee. Those present, included:—
