FORTY YEARS AGO
THE COUNTY ELECTIONS RESULTS OF CONTEST RETURNS FOR OHINEMURI (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of November 17, 1899.) The county elections took place on Wednesday last, and the excitement evinced in the result of the contests in the various ridings was intense. Paeroa Poland —- — - 177 Moore — - - —- 159 Cassrels — —- — 145 Edwards --- —- 6® Karangahake Stackpole — — —- 109 Marrinan —- — 102 Goldsworthy — — 96 MclGruer -- — 84 Waitekauri Mr H. McClelland was returned with a majority of 27 votes. Waihi Messrs H. P. Barry and C. Saunders were elected. Waitoa Mr A. Bowler was re-elected unopposed.. The New Council The new council is therefore constituted as follows:—Messrs Poland, Moore, Cassrels (Paeroa), Marrinan, Stockpole (Karangahake), Saunders, Barry (Waihi), McClelland (Waitekauri), and Bowler (Waitoa). Messrs Moore, Stackpole, McClelland, Barry and Bowler were members of the late council.
