ROUND OF RUGBY VALLEY WELL BEATEN SHOW MORE COMBINATION I - WEST GO VERY WELL Once again Thames Valley were badly defeated, the Taranaki Colts running out the victors by 27 points to 8. Certainly 'the defeat was not as severe as that inflicted by Waikato a couple of Saturdays ago and the Valley team showed more promise and better combination, still the visitore had most of the game their way. sjs $ sjs Game With Auckland B Next Saturday Valley play their final game of the season against Auckland B. The match will be played at Waitakaruru and the selectors claim that with the alterations made the team should give an excellent account of themselves. * 5£ * * Waihi Back Line The back line is practically that of the Waihi representaive team, the leading team in the Valley this year, the only alteration being that Mortimer (Te Aroha), is on one wing l . « # « # A Good Combination The combination of Furey, the two Woodlands and Ludwigg, all team mates from Waihi, must go a long way towards improving the combination of the backs andi without Auckland B are particularly strong in that division some interesting movements may be made by the Valley team. * * # # Forwards From Plains Hauraki Plains have got four forwards in the pack and these men on their own ground should give a good account of themselves. * si= 58 5? The Best Forward iH. Rowe (Te Aroha), is of course the star forward and after his game last Saturday can be depended upon to be a thorn in the side of the visiting team. * ❖ * =8 Muirhead Plays Well Muirhead is the only Paeroa player in the learn (Martin being not avail-' able), and although last Saturday was only his second game for the Valley, his performance on that day more than justified his selection again. s|j sjt Hoyle Disappointed Hoyle (Waihi), is again picked but ( although in previous games he has been a good man his display last Saturday was very disappointing indeed. * ❖ Colts Backs Too Good Reviewing the game last Saturday the Valley played quite a good game but the Taranaki Colts were. certainly too heavy for the forwards while the Colts’ backs threw the ball about in a manner which easily defeated the Valley men. s': sjs Fullback Satisfactory I. Johnson, the fullback, was called upon to do a lot of work but the manner in which he carried out his duties gave full satisfaction. s’i s}: $ Gibson Too Young ~ Gibson (Te Aroha), on the wing, was perhaps a little young for the job while Martin at centre seemed off his game. 51: sj: :1: Ludwig Impresses Ludwig on the wing, although in a new position, gave a good account of himself as did A. Woodlands, ❖ Clarke Disappointed Clarke (Te Aroha), was a disappointment while Furey (Waihi), seemed to have to look around before getting the ball away from the scrum. s': >•: 5;: The Best Forwards Muirhead (Paeroa), and Rowe (Te Aroha), were easily the pick of the Valley forwards although Kotara (Hauraki Plains), and Brankin (Paeroa), did a lot of hard work. A Win For West West in their match with the Waihi High School Old Boys proved to be too good for the visitors on Saturday winning the game by 11 points to three. * * sj: * Harris Goes Well Harris played a good game al- ; though he was a little erratic while ! Neil and Marshall also showed up.
