NEW SEA COLOURS

OCEAN WAVE. DESIGN The new vivid -blues have come about through Lelong’s sea theme, as have also the Atlantic-looking green blues. Seaweed, seashells, coral and the fronds of sea anemones are- all used for dance frocks on silk backgrounds. Ocean waves in blue and foamy white will also make some of the figured crepes for next summer’s dresses. Deep ocean blue is allied with coral pink to make a sea ensemble.

The pinafore dress has come- back and Patou makes these ensembles- in navy and black with detachable skirts. Tops are of floral patterned guimpe.

There are a number of new taffetas as soft as satins, some with Renaissance floral motifs, others with bolder floral designs in brilliant colours. With floral prints, black backgrounds are frequently used.

Very smart are the gingham checked duster linens, one weight for blouses -and another for suits.

SLIMMING STOCKINGS

Queen Elizabeth is wearing stockings dyed by an entirely .new process. At the foot they match the colour of the shoe, then merge into a normal beige or fawn shade, says a London correspondent. I saw some of these stockings recently, and, although they, may sound rather alarming, they have a decided slimming effect, especially for the ankle. They are good for the colour scheme, too, because they bring the shoe into harmony with the dress or accessories.

The Queen’s choice of stockings are those graded from wine, tan, navy, and off-black.
