SUCCESSFUL SHOW

WOMEN’S DIVISIONS

BRANCHES ON THE PLAINS

GOOD DISPLAY AT NGATEA

FLOWER'S—PRODUCE—FRUIT The first flower show to be staged

by the combined Women’s Division branches on the Hauraki Plains — Ngatea, Kerepeehi, Nether ton and Orongo—at Ngatea on Wednesday was a great success from every angle. Excellent displays of blooms and produce, considering the recent dry weather, a large attendance and many competitors were happy auguries for such future events. The officers worked hard and their efforts were well regarded by the success of the fixture. The president of the committee organising the show was Mrs W. 'Shilton of Kerepeehi and the secretary was Mrs W. Phillips of Ngatea whose energy was 1 responsible for the smooth running of the show. Many stewards and other assistants contributed their share to the great amount of work required to make the function a success., Opening By Mr Allen The show was formally opened by Mr J. M. Allen, M.P. for Hauraki. He was welcomed by Mrs Shilton and by the county chairman, Mr C. W. Par-

fitt, and Mrs Drink water, president of the Thames Valley provincial executive, handed Mr Allen a bouquet for presentation to Mrs Allen who was unavoidably absent.

Many visitors were present from Paeroa, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Wlaihi, Waihi Plains and Thames. The profits will be devoted to the rosebowl, the Thames Valley’s community chest.

List Of Judges

Judges of the various sections were:—'Flowers, Mrs Davie and Mr H. Rush (Paeroa); fancywork, Mrs F. C. Hubbard and Mrs Edwin Edwards (Paeroa); cookery, Mrs Pearson (Kerepeehi); vegetables and produce, Mrs Hair and Mrs Rowbotham (Te Aroha); preserves, Mrs Motion senr. (Ngatea); school classes, Messrs Dreadhorne and Thomas (Ngatea). The children’s section was particularly well-filled and showed good promise, owing chiefly to the co-op-eration of the teachers of the Ngatea and Kerepeehi Schools, and it was hoped to develop that section at future shows.

Points prizes were won as follow:— Flower section, Miss D. Dudding; vegetables and fruit section, Mrs Batchelor and Miss Paul; cookery section, Miss Paul; needlework section, Miss Barriball. Results were: —
