YOUR SUMMER FELT

FRESHEN WITH PASTEL CRAYON

If you wish to freshen up a light coloured felt hat this season, it can be done very inexpensively. Buy a pastel chalk crayon in the colour of your hat. Also, buy a “stump” which is made of paper firmly compressed into the form of a pencil and is used by artists in pastel work. Brush the hat thoroughly to remove any surface dust or marks. Then go over the whole hat with the crayon lightly. It will look streaked, but now take the “stump” and with the end of it rub the felt rather vigorously. The streaks will disappear with this rubbing, leaving the surface an even colour. Shake the hat and go over it with a fresh brush to remove any superfluous powder. When this is completed, the hat gives an appearance of freshness which is unattainable in most cases by dry cleaning. One can deepen or lighten the tone of the hat, depending upon the shade of crayon one chooses, or one can bring out the original toae if tho exact shade is purchased.
