WHANGAMATA ROAD
QUESTION OF -MAINTENANCE NO REQUEST TO THE MINISTER. Special circumstances surrounded the Whangamata road asserted Cr. A. R. F.obinson at yesterday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council when the engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw, had reported adversely on the state of the road. The road had gone through the Main Highways Council on several occasions and recommended as suitable for declaration as a main highway. He moved that the Minister of Public Works and Mr Jas. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, be communicate# with on the matter, the former to be asked to have the road made a Government road or main highway. The chairman, Mr Wm. Marshall, pointed out that such applications were in favour of amalgamation of counties. The Minister would use it as an instance where work could better be undertaken by a larger unit. The engineer also commented on the state of the road.
“We had better let sleeping dogs lie,” urged the chairman when Cr. , Robinson agreed to withdraw his motion.
