FAVOURABLE COMMENT OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB ANNUAL MEETING DECISIONS. The annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club was held on Monday evening, the chairman of the committee, Mr P. E. Brenan, presiding over an attendance of about 30 members. The annual report and balance sheet, as published in another column, were adopted on the motion of the chairman and Mr F. E. Flatt. Favourable comment on the affairs of the club was passed by Mr E. Edwards who congratulated the chairman, president and committee on the achievement. The club, he said, still maintained its popularity in the province. The affairs of the club had shown a marked improvement, the president, Mr Flatt, stated, and stakes were now up to the 1929 standard. Voting Procedure. A ballot had been arranged to fill vacancies caused by the retirement of four members of the committee and some discussion ensued as to whether ballot papers on which the voter’s name had not been signed on the flap of the envelope, in accordance with the instructions, should be allowed. Messrs Flatt and W. Niel moved that the scrutineers should adhere strictly to the rules. Mr T. Considine said that many voters had not signed as they thought their votes would be allowed as was the case last year. They had not signed because they thought that evaded the secrecy of the ballot. Upon the suggestion of the chairman, Mr Flatt withdrew his motion and it was agreed to allow such votes on the understanding that the rules would be strictly enforced next year. Successful Candidates. The following were elected, an asterisk denoting a sitting member: P. E. Brenan*, T. A. Barrett*, H. A. Dent, W. Niel*. The candidates returned thanks to the members. Mr Flatt congratulated Mr Brenan on his return from a trip abroad and his partial recovery after a long period of ill-health. (Applause). The chairman referred to the secretary, Mr H. Poland, who had completed over 30 years’ service, and extended to him the sympathy of the members in his present ill-health. After referring to the profit made during the year, Mr Edwards moved that the club should record its appreciation to the president, chairman, secretary and committee on managing the affairs of the club so well. The motion was carried unanimously.
