ELECTRIC POWER
SCHEME FOR COROMANDEL GENERATION BY WATER. Attention was drawn to the state of the water mains by the chairman, Mi' R. Campbell, at the Coromandel County Council’s meeting on Monday. He said that the water supply was inaugurated 42 years ago and the loan would mature in about eight years. Mr Campbell suggested that 10 inch pipes be installed from the dam to the foot of the Whangapoua hill, the old ones cleaned and used to replace the section to the bank corner, and the last lot be used to bring water from a dam across a creek in the upper township.
The chairman added that electricity could be generated by water power and the town lighted, the cost being recovered by the sale of surplus power. The revenue from electricity would probably pay for the loan to build the new dam.
After a short discussion on the state of the present mains the council empowered the water committee to engage an engineer to report on the scheme.
