If dogs had the intelligence to read what follows in this paragraph (states the Hawke’s Bay Herald), they would keep well away from Holland’s doorway in Hastings Street, Napier, in the near future. A cunning device invented by Mr W. Ben Anderson is to be established there which is estimated to discourage dogs from loitering in that vicinity. Briefly, the principle of the device is this: An unsuspecting dog’ who investigates entrance to the premises might be unfortunate enough to place the weight of one foot on a platform at ground level. Woe betide him if he does, because he will release a spring which will allow strong fumes of ammonia to linger in his nostrils. The placing of the-device at Holland’s entrance has the approval of the Napier Borough Council.
